With ESF EUROPE only a few weeks away, we caught up with Petra Koselka, CEO of Angara Global, one of our speakers, to get her views on Decarbonization Strategies and Technologies in the region.
1. Almost a year ago, in March 2022, Angara launched the DecarbonX Program and later opened the first of its DecarbonX R&D centers. How successful has the DecarbonX initiative been so far in driving decarbonization and delivering significant energy savings for your clients?
We are quite pleased with the development of the DecarbonX Program, despite its young age. During the year, DecarbonX Program has become more and more an ecosystem, a “Club” in which different value chain partners co-exist, flourish and benefit from each other. So far, they include refinery clients, service contractors, chemical blenders, energy consultants, and some OEMs active in the heat exchangers and decarbonization space.
Such cooperation allowed us to expand our operations in Europe significantly and opening the DecarbonX R&D Center in Europe has increased efficiency in serving our clients. We plan to drive it much further in 2023 with a targeted decarbonization of 125,000 tonnes/year.
2. Your technology is all about short-term decarbonization target. How large is the potential?
As verified by DNV, the estimated decarbonization potential of Angara’s technology, if applied at scale, is up to 400 M tonnes of CO2 abatement per year. Our technology was evaluated by DNV and got a TRL 8+ (out of 9), which means, it is ready NOW.
At the ESF Europe in Amsterdam I will be presenting the topic of: "Angara Dutch Story - Decarbonizing up to 10% of the Netherlands' industry emission reduction target through 2030 NOW!"
I am a great believer in immediate decarbonization measures and am proud to be the CEO of the company, which has the innovative technology to deliver just this for our Clients. Angara is not about decarbonization in the future, it is not about fulfilling commitments medium and long term only. It is about delivering measurably and transparently today. I believe that only if Clients show short-term results will their stakeholders believe their longer term targets will be delivered too.
3. What do you hope the discussion from a conference like ESF Europe will help the industry to achieve over the next 12 months?
We had an excellent experience last year at the ESF Europe in Berlin. We met new partners and clients, and since have seen a significant growth of our business. Therefore, we had no doubts about participating in the ESF Europe this year.
Angara Global and Petra Koselka during ESF Europe 2022, Berlin
We had an excellent experience last year at the ESF Europe in Berlin. We met new partners and clients, and since have seen a significant growth of our business. Therefore, we had no doubts about participating in the ESF Europe this year, especially since it is in Amsterdam, where we have one of our offices in the heart of Europe, which is currently our main operational focus region.
We also greatly value the ease of communication and the responsiveness of Euro Petroleum Consultants, the organizer of ESF conferences. We already see that the upcoming ESF Europe conference 2023 will be an even bigger success than the previous one.
As Angara is currently actively developing business in the MENA region, we are also participating in the ESF MENA conference, and we are looking forward to expanding our regional network as well as seeing our current clients and partners at the event.
